On 8th April 2019, the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will be introduced in central London. The zone is set to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.
Within the zone, vehicles of all sizes will have to adhere to its emissions standards or incur charges. Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes that don’t meet standards will be charged £12.50 per day, and vehicles heavier than that (lorries, buses/coaches) will incur charges of £100.
With the introduction of ULEZ, the Mayor of London seeks to discourage vehicles that produce harmful levels of emissions from contributing to the already high levels of pollution in the capital.
Pollutants including Nitrogen Oxide and Particulate Matters are prevalent in central London and have a range of adverse effects on the population. Children are especially vulnerable to harmful fumes, potentially suffering from reduced lung growth as a result.
According to City Hall, air pollution reduces the average Londoner’s life by 17 months. The presences of noxious fumes can also worsen chronic illnesses.
With the imposed restrictions set out for ULEZ, it is hoped to improve the health of current and future generations in the capital.
Border Group has invested in two new trucks for Border Barrier Systems with low-emission engines compliant with the standards set out for the ULEZ, which will be on the road from 1st March 2019. In addition to this, we have also acquired two more Moffett Mounty forklifts to go on the trucks to help with loading and unloading of our products on busy sites.
By ensuring we have vehicles that meet the standards of the ULEZ, we will avoid incurring £100 per day charges for our heavier vehicles to operate in central London. This means we won’t have to pass that cost on to our clients, so as well as reducing our emissions, we also avoid having to raise costs to cover charges.
In addition, our new vehicles feature all the necessary equipment for FORS gold accreditation. This includes being fitted with a 360-degree camera to ensure safety. Operation of the vehicles is also carried out by iFORS-accredited individuals.
So, if you require any Border Barrier Systems products delivered to central London, you can rest assured that our fleet is both suitably eco-friendly and cost-effective. If you have any queries, don’t hesitate to get in touch, one of our friendly and knowledgeable staff will be more than happy to help.
